Disappearing Budapest

Disappearing Budapest
Intera Rt. - Városháza ● Budapest 1994

Only photographs can preserve the past. In this album you find shots of
small business in Budapest from the 1950’s and 60’s. The series was taken
together with Aliona Frankl. All the small shops shown in this selection
have disappeared since.

Coal

The coal mines in the South of Hungary closed down for economic reasons at the end of the 1980’s. The photos in this book document the already deserted and empty spaces of coalmining that started way back at the end of the 19th century.

Budapest 1900 - 2000

Budapest 1900 - 2000
Vince ● Budapest 2001 ● BUY ONLINE

This album invites you for a walk in time in Budapest. I followed the steps of
György Klösz, the most important 19th Century photographer and reconstructed some 60 of his photographs of the capital trying to find the very same angle of his camera.

Jewish Budapest
Jewish Budapest
Vince ● Budapest 2002BUY ONLINE

An enthusiastically assimilating Jewry was one of the engines of bourgeois transformation in Budapest, which blossomed at the time of the country’s 1896 millenary celebrations. Its activity left a marked trace on the image of the city, which was in the process of becoming a metropolitan centre. This interaction finally ended with the anti-Jewish laws and the Holocaust. Lugo’s photographs immortalise what has remained of this culture and reveal that which aims to live again.

Athens Then and Now

Athens Then and Now
Olkos
Athens 2003

Following the success of the Budapest 1900-2000 album I did the same thing in Athens where changes were much more marked. Unlike the Budapest album it was not based on the photos of only one photographer but a collection of various artists.

Castle District

Castle District
Vince ●- Budapest 2004

The Castle District is Budapest’s most beautiful treasure, but it reveals it many faces only to those who do not regret the time involved. The area’s historical atmosphere is revealed not only in mansions, churches and bastions, but also in residential houses. Narrow streets, even narrower alleys, mysterious courtyards and intimate squares speak of life and rebirth. The photographs of Lugo deal with the entirety by looking at the details.English-Hungarian

Salzburg

Salzburg
Otto Müller Verlag ● Wien 2004

How was it then, how was it now? A wonderful volume that places old and new photographs of the city of Salzburg side by side and offers astonishing comparisons. A completely different view of the "Festival City".

On the Danube

On the Danube
Vince ● Budapest 2005

Budapest is the queen of the Danube. The river is at its most spectacular.
The Danube is an eternal muse inspiring music, poetry, fiction and photography. The photos follow the flow of the river bridge by bridge from North to South.
